Dry Point
Exhibition Text
Robe du Soir is a dry point print inspired by Tissot's style, subjects, and his Summer Evening (Soiree d'ete). It takes a lot of different aspects from the clothing and hairstyles of the 1880s.
I experimented with different angles of the light source using my phone flashlight. I wanted to see how the light would fall upon her but it was difficult since it was just a two-dimensional drawing, so the light did not act the same way as it would if it was a form. I was able to figure out where the light and the shadows would be though. |
I created the sketch that I would use the trace onto the plate. I first created the basic outline for the girl and then the outline of the clothes, fixing and straightening the lines as I went. I then added the hair and its detail and shadows in the face and shoulder. Then added detail in the clothes and its shadows. I finally created the background just by adding straight lines. The lines are dense on the left side for the shadow and adding less lines as I got to the side of the light source. |
